Album Review: Slaughter Of The Soul (1995)

For fans of: death metal... and finally getting it right

At The Gates - Slaughter Of The SoulA screaming juggernaut of an album that doesn't pause until the painfully melodic gasps of the final track. Slaughter Of The Soul is a massively rhythmic album overlaid with the deathly wails of Tomas Lindberg. Although vocally not a band this site would normally cover, the guitar and rhythm section have a real classical/funk nature brooding beneath the surface.

Hugely influential on many modern bands, and considered by many to be demigods, At The Gates lit the fuse with their 1995 album. It towers far above their other releases and cannot be recommended enough to anyone with a passion for pile driving yet melodic metal.

*Presently available as a re-mastered cd featuring several new songs or new versions of songs.
