AS WE DIE - EP review added 19th April 2010
EP Review: The Right Choices EP (2010)
For fans of: Melodic Metalcore... and pitbulls with bows
Italian melodic metalcorians As We Die - Luca Esposito on vocals and bass, Roberto Bellina and Matteo Villa on guitar, and Denis Tasca on drums - was officially formed in December 2007. By the middle of 2008 they were recording original music. 2010 sees their debut release, The Right Choices, coming out on SG Records.
The EP, recorded at 16th Cellar Studio in Rome. doesn't do anything spectacularly new, but it's enjoyable all the same. The combination of death howls and cleaner vocals mostly works well, although a few of the straight-ahead singing moments are strangely out of tune. The musicianship is rapid, machine-shop-precise and often f*cking heavy. Saying that, there is a strong sense of melody laid over the whole EP giving it a sense of accessibility. The end result is like a pitbull with a bow in its hair.
As We Die show real potential here. If they can sort out the clean vocals and work a bit harder to find their own niche - and they're almost there already - there's no reason why they couldn't go places.
