Album Review: Hotter Than Hell (2010)
For fans of: Heavy Metal... and AC/DC clones
Man, this is some crazy sh*t! Big Ball hail from Germany, but they sound almost identical to AC/DC in a bad mood. Hotter Than Hell is full of swearing, dubious song titles and aggressively loud rock 'n' roll.
What else do we know about the band? Not a lot really apart from it's based around Thomas Gurrath from Debauchery. The promo was a download effort with nothing more than a tracklist, and the band's websites tell you f*ck all. All I can do is say the record is out on AFM, and then draw the following conclusions...
Every song on Hotter Than Hell would do an x-rated version of AC/DC proud. None of the tracks are exceptional, but they are all tongue-in-cheek fun and totally over the top. The vocals are a comedic take on the standard AC/DC style, and the musicianship is big, boisterous and well executed.
It's difficult to work out if the album is appalling or totally brilliant. I guess we'll have to settle somewhere in the middle. If you like AC/DC, but think they're a bit low-key, this'll be right up your street. If you hate AC/DC, or think anyone who rips off their sound is the son of Beelzebub, avoid this like the proverbial plague.
Check out... The title track. It's actually rather good.
