BITTER FROST - review added 25th May 2010
Album Review: Bitter Frost (self-titled) (2010)
For fans of: Melodic Black Metal... and noise
Hmmm. This debut album by Bitter Frost - a project led by multi-instrumentalist Lord Christopher A. Erikson - is definitely an acquired taste. Sadly, I have not acquired it yet.
The album has apparently taken 6 years to create, and in all fairness it does sound vast. It also features several different vocalists from the metal underground including Sean Peck (Cage), Anthony Prechtl (Diadem), Stacy Rugely (Oplexicon) and more.
The result is, to be honest, pretty damn awful. I like a bit of melodious black/death metal. This is nowhere near that. It's not a long way above white noise. Emperor, on their staggering IX Equilibrium, showed what is possible when you combine the worlds of extreme noise frenzy and catchy melody. This release sounds like it was trying to do the same thing but, well, it really has failed miserably,
I don't like slating an album, but there really are few positives to this release. Eek.
Check out... Something else.
