Album Review: Viva La Rock, Fantastico! (2010)
For fans of: Heavy Rock 'n' Roll... and ye olde AC/DC
Rockers Broken Teeth hail from Austin, Texas in the good ol' US of A. You wouldn't necessarily know that listening to the amusingly named Viva la Rock, Fantastico!. The album really sounds like it was born 'Down under'.
Yep, this is yet another album that comes across like a cloned version of AC/DC. I've lost count of the number there have been recently. I don't mind albums and bands that nod to the classic acts, but when the music blatantly copies it hook, line and sinker, it is frankly irritating. It's a shame because, looking past the lack of originality, this is a good fun release.
Featuring Jason McMaster on vocals, Jared Tuten and David Beeson on guitars, Brett McCormick on bass, and Bruce Rivers on drums (plus Canadian rocker Danko Jones doing backing vocals), all 13 tracks on Viva la Rock, Fantastico! are brand new and have a sparkling hit of adrenaline built into their souls. The album is energetic and the band will undoubtedly be a blast live. However, that does not a good LP make.
If the album had come out 40 years ago it would have changed the face of music forever. In 2010 it simply sounds like a good take on an old idea; with nothing new brought along for the ride...and that's just not enough for me.
Check out... AC/DC instead.
