STAN BUSH - review added 30th July 2010
Album Review: Dream The Dream (2010)
For fans of: Hard Rock... and another version of that Transformers song
Stan Bush is probably best known for the songs he's had in films like the original Transformers, Kickboxer, Bloodsport and more. He also won an Emmy Award in 1997 for Best Original Song.
Dream the Dream is his 11th studio album. It sees him teaming up with writer/producer/guitarist Holger Fath, as well as writers Bobby Barth (Axe, Blackfoot), Curt Cuomo (Kiss, Eddie Money), Ed Tree, and Lenny Macaluso, plus musicians Matt Laug (Alice Cooper, Richard Marx) on drums and Matt Bissonette (Rick Springfield, David Lee Roth) on bass.
Previous album In This Life (2007) is a real favourite here at Rock Realms, being one of the very few albums we've given full marks to.
The sound of Dream The Dream follows a similar theme, although this album doesn't quite match the absolute style and substance of its illustrious predecessor. Dream The Dream is very good. In This Life was phenomenal. Shame really; looking down on an album like this seems crazy but, when the bar has been set so high, it's always going to be hard to reach it.
Great moments on Dream The Dream are many; from the spunky upbeat opener 'Never Hold Back', the charming 'I'm Still Here', the sentimental yet appealing 'Don't Give Up On Love', the Foreigner's 'Head Games' sounding 'Two Hearts', through the superbly slushy 'In My Life', the cool 'Love Is The Road', the huge 'If This Is All There Is', the satisfying title track, and onto the really rather excellent 'More Than A Miracle', the straight-ahead but very likeable 'Your Time', the wound back 'All That I Am', and the final effort, yet another version of Stan's Transformer's song 'The Touch' (although this one is arguably the best of the bunch).
I really do like this album. A lot. It still isn't as good as the last one, and it begs for a truly massive original song, but I have to recommend you buy it anyway because, well, it's a bloody fine release and you won't regret it.
Check out... All of it.
