Album Review: Generation Wild (2010)
For fans of: Hard Rock... and awakening the Skid Row monster
Swedish rock band Crashdïet was discovered by Universal Music in 2004. Their debut album Rest in Sleaze hit no.12 in the Swedish album charts. Tragedy struck soon after when singer Dave Lepard was found
dead in his apartment. The surviving members decided to break up the band, but through fan support decided to start up again with new singer Olliver. The Unattractive Revolution followed in 2007. Sadly Olliver quit soon after that.
Now, with new singer Simon Cruz, plus Martin Sweet on guitars, Peter London on bass, and Eric Young on drums, the band are returning for their 3rd album.
The sound is sleaze-tinged hard rock with forays into metal, punk and boisterous rock 'n' roll. The lyrics don't hold back, the production is first class, and overall this is a release with a fantastic vibe. Saying that, the songs are hit and miss...although when they hit they'll knock your block off.
Best track by far is 'Native Nature', a song that sounds like the long lost blood-brother of Skid Row's 'Monkey Business'. It's a frighteningly heavy track that will tear up the dance floor in any rock club. Other high points are common place...but the fantastical title track, and the Oasis-baiting 'Chemical' are a few steps ahead.
You really won't go too far wrong with this album. It's reasonably strong from start to finish and boasts numerous big choruses and cool hooks. I haven't heard Crashdïet's other two releases, but I can't imagine Generation Wild is going to do a lot to harm their reputation.
Check out... All of it.
