Album Review: Consfearacy (self-titled) (2011)
For fans of: Heavy Metal
Transatlantic project Consfearacy is a kind of semi-heavy-metal-supergroup. With members or ex-members of bands like Vicious Rumors, Metal Church and The New Black, it shouldn't take a genius to work out what the resulting sound is like.
This debut self-titled album is a heavy brute with nods to hardcore and occasional deathly progressions, but mostly it's a straight ahead noise-fest that hits all the right buttons with a great big sledgehammer. There is technical brilliance aplenty, and a surprising amount of subtlety and intelligence behind the mahoosive volume. There's little doubt that this release is mostly about speaker destruction and the removal of people's hearing organs.
I'm not in love with the vocals (they're more power than heavy metal), but apart from that it's hard to find fault. The songs have plenty of variety, it's blatant from the first second these guys know how to handle their instruments, the production is fine, and, well, the bad news never really starts. All you could say is that none of the songs are absolutely massive on the catchiness front...but that's about it.
In Summation:
If you like metal with a hint of hardcore, it doesn't get a huge amount better than this. The vocals don't do it for me, but you might love them. Want your ears to burst? Give Consfearacy a try.
