Album Review: The Codex (Self Titled) (2007)
For fans of: hard rock... and awesome openings
A project featuring Mark Boals, Magnus Karlsson and Dennis Ward was never going to be rubbish, the only question was how good would the end result actually be? The answer is pretty darn good, actually.
'Beyond The Dark', 'Raise Your Hands' and 'Mystery' are stunning songs, but whilst most of the other tracks are fine they are guilty of blending into each other on occasions. There are some truly heavy riffs on the album and plenty of attitude is on show, but you are left with the feeling it should have been a tad better. This is not a slight on the album, purely a feeling gleaned from the brilliance that shines through on occasions
Overall it's a good album, but the overwhelming feeling of 'What if?' loses it some percentage points.
Check out... 'Mystery'.
