DAVID COVERDALE - stub review added 26th October 2008
Album Review: Northwinds (1978)
For fans of: blues rock... and, well, David Coverdale
Take two measures of gently chilled blues rock, infuse with a hint of gospel, a dash of Mississippi piano, then top up with hard rock and you'll have yourself a Northwinds cocktail.
This album, as far removed from his hair-rock work as is possible, shows David Coverdale revealing his soulful side. Tunes like the title track and 'Only My Soul' have a vibe that takes you back to the seventies, even if you didn't experience that decade first hand. The last two tracks, bonuses on the now available re-mastered version, have a sleazy air like they were written for an old cop show.
Good album with a lot of likeability. Not much to blow you off your feet, but that isn't what this sort of music is about.
Check out... The title track. Mmm, chilled.
