Album Review: Darklight Corporation (self-titled) (2010)

For fans of: Metal... and possibly The Prodigy

Darklight Corporation - Darklight Corporation (self-titled)Darklight Corporation - Fabio Santos on vocals, Chris Prenter on guitars and production, Elliot Chao on bass, and Dean Beck on drums - hail from the Southern hemisphere. Fabio (vocally) is very obviously Brazilian, and the band as a whole are based in Wellington, New Zealand. They've only been together for just over a year, so already having an album out with worldwide distribution isn't at all bad.

The sound of this self-titled debut is interesting and kind of novel...although it's achingly familiar at the same time. Take 3 parts Sepultura thrash, 1 part Prodigy dance, 2 parts Biohazard hardcore, and 1 part Ministry-esque industrial and you'll be there. As a whole Darklight Corporation really do sound like a remixed, rehashed version of old Sepultura. That's not necessarily a criticism, although it does make the result a bit heard-it-all-before,

'Lockdown' is the best track, with 'Propoganda' and 'Ramrod69' in a comfortable second place. Everything else offers something of interest. Whether any of it is genuinely excellent or not is another matter.

As a whole Darklight Corporation have produced a decent debut album here. It's not quite brilliant, and it does wear its influences too obviously on its sleeve, but it'll certainly appeal to fans of the above mentioned bands.

Check out... The drums in 'Ramrod69'
