Album Review: Dragon Slayer (2002)
For fans of: power metal... and good, good NOISE
First album from Swedish power metal gods Dream Evil, Dragonslayer remains one of the most stunning debuts in the melodic metal field. There isn't a bad song on the album and, although few of the songs themselves are all-time classics, practically every one is within an inch of superstardom.
The thumping beats and huge guitars are all present and correct, but many songs have a contagious funk element to them that really lifts them clear of the competition. The variety of songs is great too. Many bands find a formula and stick with it. On this album the sound may be consistent but the tracks really do veer off at tangents.
Something for everyone here. Not all will get the crazy vocals, but for fun factor and balls-out rock attitude, this is hard to top.
Check out... 'Losing You'. Actually a rather good ballad, surprisingly.
