Album Review: Regression In Mind (2009)
For fans of: Death Metal... and music that WILL kick your ass into the middle of next week
Italian death metallers Delyria started back in summer 2005. By Easter of 2006 their first demo At The Wane Of The Sun came out. Just over a year later, their second demo release Tales from my Abyss emerged. It was another couple of years before Regression In Mind, their first full album emerged.
Recorded at 16th Cellar Studio in Rome, Regression In Mind sees Andrea Germinario on vocals, Giancarlo Lucheroni and Fabio Barbetti on guitar, Francesco Angelini on bass, and Daniele Cavalli on drums producing something positively mind-melting. As it says at the top of the page, this album really will kick your ass.
The sound is a freight-train wreck of thrash, death metal, and achingly progressive rock. The result sounds like At The Gates having a raging tank battle with Machinehead, Entombed and Pink Floyd. It's actually difficult to explain just how good this record sounds. Few of the songs standalone as examples of perfection, but every track has something big, sexy and nasty about it.
If you have the slightest affinity with death metal, or you simply love music at the nasty end of the heavy-scale, you need to check Regression In Mind out. Delyria really are a name to look out for in the future. Judging by this release, these guys may end up going all the way to the top.
Check out... All of it.
