Album Review: Secret Society (2006)
For fans of: alternative rock... and concepts for room decor which won't catch on
The second album after a 13 year break, Secret Society is surprisingly good. It doesn't sound anything like classic Europe, but it's so far removed it doesn't matter. There is a nice modern vibe to the record and the guys have clearly not stopped to reflect on their past.
It's hard to pick standout songs as there is nothing that truly shakes the earth, but the sound and songwriting is very consistent throughout and can't be moaned about. The only complaint is a lack of truly catchy choruses.
It's always difficult to reinvent yourselves, and in truth this band should no longer be called Europe. This really does stand up to scrutiny against their back catalogue. You cannot compare it directly, but for the quality of the tunes this is a little bit of all right.
Check out... This album. You might be surprised.
