EP Review: Electric Woodland EP (self-titled) (2011)

For fans of: Classic Rock

Electric Woodland - Electric Woodland EP (self-titled)Norwegian band Electric Woodland are built on a foundation of classic American rock with a touch of hippy chic and a nod to modern indie. This self-titled EP is their debut release and, to be honest, it promises much both in the short and long term.

The performances are still loose around the edges, and the songwriting isn't 100% there yet, but there is a serious band of cool running through the centre of everything these guys do. The way they manage to be utterly retro and achingly contemporary is impressive, and they are only a few notches away from chart-bothering quality.

The Grooving 'Midnight Treasure' and the Doors-esque 'Manimal' are the best moments, but this is more about the beginning of something that could become very good indeed. Let's hope these guys have the ability and enthusiasm to keep going and that they produce a full length sometime soon.

In Summation:

This eponymous debut is jolly splendid. Like a bit of a retro rock with a 21st century bent? Check this out.
