Album Review: Long Way From Home (2010)
For fans of: Rock... and, again, music that would sound better live
E.Z.Riders - still Alessandro Alessandrini on vocals and guitar, Luigi Ridolfi on vocals and bass, and Rodolfo Ridolfi on drums - are back with their second album following their 2008 self-titled debut. I wasn't a huge fan of the first release. The songs were kind-of catchy in places, but there was little production to speak of and the performances were not really up to CD spec.
The sounds on "Long Way From Home" are better, but not by a long way. The style is basically the same - bluesy soft rock in that Southern U.S. bar room style - but there's definitely more focus this time round...and a few tracks actually sound genuinely good. The best by a margin is the final track, an acoustic version of the title track. Perhaps if the band focused more in this direction they might please my ears a little more.
Overall, just like the debut, this is an album from a band built for the live stage, not the studio. If you want to go and see them live (and I recommend you do because they will surely shine there), buy this album so you can learn their music. I can't really recommend you buy this for pure listening pleasure though. It's, er, just not that pleasurable.
Check out... the band live...
