GRAND DESIGN - review added 25th October 2011
Album Review: Idolizer (2011)
For fans of: Hard Rock
This is one of the easier reviews I'll get to write...
Grand Design wear their influences with pride. They sound more like Def Leppard than even Def Leppard do these days. 2009's "Time Elevation" started the ball rolling, and "Idolizer" doesn't do anything different. This is still a band with a brilliant but copied style, playing brilliant but derivative songs.
Pelle Saether has a fine voice, the musicianship and production are first class, and the album is a blast from start to finish. It isn't any better or worse than the debut and, well, there's not a lot else I can say. My favourite song is the superb 'Love Bites' -chasing ballad 'Addiction For Love', but I'm sure everyone will get something different from the album.
In Summation:
If you like your bands to be original steer clear of this. If you yearn for the late 1980s or merely the return of classic Def Leppard, buy this now. Between you and me it's better than anything DL have done in years.
