Album Review: America Must Be Destroyed (1991)

For fans of: alternative metal... and tongue-in-(butt)cheek lyrics

Gwar - America Must Be DestroyedObscene, totally over the top and thoroughly unsuitable for anyone with a pulse, America Must Be Destroyed is however excellent. It may have more cheese than an Edam factory and more filth than the mud wrestling world championships, but somehow this album is still very catchy and great fun.

With lyrics like, er, well actually I can't really quote them here because they really are very rude... but there are plenty of vile stories which will make you laugh out loud or puke. The sound is metallized punk in places, but almost lounge-music like in others. The songs all have something to offer and the album as a whole works brilliantly.

Definitely not for everyone, this album is superb but aimed at a very narrow audience. If you have an open mind and like to be grossed out occasionally, America Must Be Destroyed is almost perfect.

Check out... 'Gor Gor'. It's almost a song about Godzilla, but more fun and considerably more evil (in a good way).
