Album Review: Once And Future King - Pt 1 (2003)
For fans of: hard rock... and gathering a great cast
The Once And Future King project is a two album concept about the King Arthur story. This, the first half, sees singers like Danny Vaughn, Bob Catley and Sean Harris joining Gary.
Whilst these albums are a great storytelling medium, ultimately it's the quality of the songs that means most. No matter how good the tale, if the songs don't make you come back for more the album has failed. On this album, 'The Reason Why' and 'Sinner' stand out as reasonably catchy tunes, but every track has something to offer.
There is nothing amazing, the whole album varies between okay and good, but you'll admire what has been achieved. Not Gary's best work, but full marks for effort.
