Album Review: Soul Mover (2005)
For fans of: funk rock... and funk everything else
Very nice album from the former Deep Purple bass player/vocalist, Soul Mover really should have been entitled 'Funk Mover'. There is a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers style music here. Unsurprising when you see who the drummer is - no other than Chad Smith.
Despite the funk overload there are soulful interludes on the album, but it really is the jumpy crazy rhythms that dominate proceedings. Glenn's voice sounds as good as ever, and the madder the vocals the better his unique tone comes across.
If you love the Chili Peppers or Glenn Hughes, this is nirvana. If you haven't experienced either before, I still heartedly recommend you experience this. Soul Mover is leftfield of the mainstream and for that we doff our hats.
Check out... The level of funk on offer. It's as vast as an elephant's flares.
