HUMAN TEMPLE - review added 13th January 2010

Album Review: Murder Of Crows (2010)

For fans of: Hard Rock... and a mixed up Tyketto

Human Temple - Murder Of CrowsFinnish hard rockers Human Temple released their debut album, Insomnia, back in 2004. It has taken until now for this follow-up album to appear.

The band - Janne Hurme on vocals, Jori "Jorge" Tojander on keyboards, Harri "Danny" Kinnunen on bass, Petri "Perti" Lehto on drums, and Petri Ilvonen on guitar - has its roots back in the 1980's when Janne and Petri formed their first band. Back then, their influences were Kiss, Dokken, Motley Crüe and other bands of that ilk. Judging by this release, their tastes are still very similar.

The sound is hard rocking but rarely heavy. This is music that wouldn't know brutality if it was hit on the head with a mallet. It's pleasant, middle of the road melodious music with a fair slice of oomph and a hugely inoffensive aura surrounding it. Janne's voice really reminds me of Danny Vaughn's, actually to the extent I had to check if the Tyketto front man sang on Murder Of Crows.

The only tracks that really do anything for me are the soft, ballad-a-like, 'Just One Night', the harder hitting 'Secret', and final track 'What About My Broken Heart'. Apart from that the album is okay if unexceptional. Human Temple do not lack for talent, especially on the vocal front, but this release does a lot less for me than it should or could have done.

Check out... Those Danny Vaughn similarities.
