Album Review: Chaos ElecDead (2011)

For fans of: Modern Thrash Metal

InsIDeaD - Chaos ElecDead"Chaos ElecDead" is the debut album by Greek quartet InsIDeaD. The band came to fame when they won at the Wacken Open Air metal battle competition in 2009, and have since signed to Germany's Massacre Records...cool when you consider they've been together for well over a decade.

Their sound is banging and heavy, mixing the classic thrash sound of Metallica (especially on excellent 2nd track 'Blood 4 Blood'), the tribal nature of Sepultura, the hardcore sound of Biohazard, and the melodic death of Entombed. The result is gnarly and very rough around the edges, but its characterful style has plenty of appeal. The vocals are not great (if we're being honest here) but the rugged nature of the musicianship almost makes up for them.

All the songs have pros and cons, but the aforementioned 'Blood 4 Blood', and the monstrously heavy 'In My World' are a nose ahead of the others.

In Summation:

InsIDeaD are not what you'd call genre defining or life-changing, and the album is not that spectacular, but there's something likeable about them regardless.
