Album Review: The Number Of The Beast (1982)
For fans of: heavy metal... and very big Eddie
Iron Maiden's third album but the first featuring Bruce Dickinson, The Number Of The Beast is considered by many to be their finest work. With songs like the title track, 'Run To The Hills' and 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' it's hard to argue.
Maiden are considered a heavy inaccessible band by some, but they have a depth of melody and songwriting that belies their associated imagery. They have never been the strongest on heartfelt lyrics, but for variety and catchiness they are the dons.
This is a great album, be in no doubt. Every song offers something new and the best tracks have now been part of Maiden's live set for more than twenty five years. Incredible.
Check out... 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', inspiration for a multitude of epic rock tracks since.
