Album Review: The Landing (2011)

For fans of: Power Metal

Iron Savior - The LandingIt's four years since German metal band Iron Savior released an album, and a full seven since I heard a new one - the excellent "Battering Ram". "The Landing" is an album I'm excited about. I love a good slab of power metal, and these guys can produce brutal volume like few others.

Good news is that this still sounds kind of like the Iron Savior I know. Okay, they aren't as impossibly loud as they once were, but the overall quality of songs is still good. The performances are on the money for speedy power metal, and even the artwork is fantastically expensive looking - something I consider surprisingly important to create the ambience for a decent power metal album.

It's not all good news though. The songs, though on average absolutely fine, don't match those on BR. I think what made this band great was the savage heaviness and immeasurable decibel level. "The Landing" sounds too grown up and sensible to do the Iron Savior name full justice. "Battering Ram" would eat this one as a light snack.

Of the tracks, 'The Savior' is worth a listen or three. 'Heavy Metal Never Dies' is awesomely loud and bloody enjoyable. 'Hall Of The Heroes' tickles the tastebuds too.

In Summation:

There's nothing wrong with this album, in fact its actually rather good, but it doesn't ignite in the way I know Iron Savior can. More volume and ferocity next time please!
