Album Review: Arrival (2001)

For fans of: rock... and the comeback of comebacks

Journey - ArrivalThe 11th full studio album by Journey marked the 'arrival' of new singer Steve Augeri and drumming sensation Deen Castronovo. Clever name eh?

Be in no doubt this album sounds different to other Journey albums. It has a warmer melodic sound rather than the multi-layered harmonies of old. Steve Augeri has hints of Steve Perry about him, but he's much softer of voice and lends Arrival a depth of feeling that may have been missing had Perry sung them.

In my opinion this is every bit as good as the best Journey albums, but it isn't the same as them. This is a different style of music with a different style of production. It is, though, unequivocally a thing of beauty.

Check out... 'Live And Breathe'. Stunning.
