Album Review: Generations (2005)

For fans of: rock... and everyone having a go

Journey - GenerationsGenerations is a confusing release from Journey. Every member of the band has a stab at singing a song or two, some more successfully than others. Drummer Deen Castronovo comes across well on 'A Better Life' and Jonathan Cain sounds reasonable on 'Every Generation'.

Because of the jumping back and forth the album never really gets going. Why they couldn't have let Steve Augeri sing the whole thing is beyond me. His well publicised throat issues meant this was his last recorded work with the band, but it's unlikely his throat was the reason he didn't sing every song. Politics was at work I tell you...

If Steve had been allowed to front the band throughout the album, Generations may have worked. As is, it ends up as a clutch of good songs handled in a haphazard fashion.

Check out... Ross Valory's singing. He isn't that bad, but he certainly isn't 'Journey'.
