Album Review: Revelation (2008)
For fans of: rock... and people from the other side of the world who sound like steve Perry
The 13th full studio album by Journey, Revelation marks the arrival of Filipino vocalist Arnel Pineda. Arnel was discovered by Neal Schon on YouTube and replaced Jeff Scott Soto who had himself only recently replaced Steve Augeri.
Vocally, Pineda sounds uncannily like Steve Perry. The songs hark back to the classic Journey sound too. Although the album takes a while to get going, songs like 'What I Needed', the re-recorded 'Faith In The Heartland' and the beautiful ballad 'Turn Down The World Tonight' confirm that Pineda was the right choice for the band.
There are some all-time Journey greats here, even if the album itself is not their best. The package includes a second disc with re-done versions of classic Journey songs like 'Open Arms'. This disc isn't worth bothering with as the new versions don't add anything to the originals.
Check out... 'Faith In The Heartland'. There was nothing even slightly wrong with the original, but this one actually sounds better.
