Album Review: Trial By Fire (1996)

For fans of: rock... and album covers designed with the help of LSD... allegedly.

Journey - Trial By FireAfter a ten year hiatus, Journey came back to record one final album with Steve Perry on vocals and Steve Smith on drums. It would then be another 5 years before their next record with a new line-up.

Trial By Fire is a good if melancholy release. Only in parts does it sound like traditional Journey. Apart from a couple of songs the whole album is sad to the point of tears. There are barely any stand out moments, but to be fair nothing is overly bad.

If you want an album of songs to sink you further into depression, this is the ideal release. Don't listen to Trial By Fire if you like being happy. You may lose the will to live.

Check out... 'Castles Burning'. It's almost upbeat.
