KISSIN' DYNAMITE - review added 4th April 2012
Album Review: Money, Sex & Power (2012)
For fans of: Sleazy Heavy Rock
"Money, Sex & Power" marks the third album from German band Kissin' Dynamite, following their debut "Steel Of Swabia” (2008) and "Addicted To Metal" (2010). Somehow I missed both those releases, but fortunately this one hasn't passed me by. I say fortunately because the LP really is bloody brilliant.
The sound is somehow in the middle of Guns N' Roses meets Judas Priest meets Edguy meets The Poodles...with a bit of Motley Crue and a large slab of Steel Panther thrown in for good measure. There's oodles of sleaze, tons of huge riffs, more monster hooks than a shark fishing competition, and a boisterous metal sound that walks hand in hand with beautifully accessible hard rock.
The performances are superb. The opening vocals in the first track sounded awful the first time I heard them, but once singer Hannes Braun gets going he has a fantastically spunky voice with loads of power and character. Listening back at those few seconds now, they actually sound great in the context of the album. The musicianship is excellent too, with everything from the rhythm section to the guitars to the synth background effects being spot on. To be honest it's hard to find anything to criticise.
Of the songs, the very silly 'Dinosaurs Are Still Alive' and the unbelievably leftfield 'Six Feet Under' are the best. The overall quality is so high though that any track here could be considered brilliant.
Be in no doubt, this will up with the albums of the year for me. Superb.
