Album Review: As Daylight Dies (2006)
For fans of: metalcore... and volcanic explosions
Killswitch Engage's 4th studio album, As Daylight Dies sees the band still failing to reach their earlier highs. Technically the music is highly impressive, maybe their most impressive yet, but much of it is repetitive and many tracks sound like rehashes of others.
Throughout the album Howard Jones' voice radiates power like a leaking volcano. He makes singing sound easy, although you get the impression they went through numerous microphones during the recording process. He really is LOUD.
For a band with such astonishing talent, Killswitch Engage should have released something massive by now. As Daylight Dies isn't a bad album, it just isn't that memorable. Here's hoping the new album (when it comes) is mind blowing. They deserve it.
Check out... 'Holy Diver', which appeared on a special edition of this release. Why can't all their songs sound so good? Maybe they should just cover Dio tracks...
