Album Review: Khymera (Self Titled) (2003)
For fans of: hard rock... and intriguing vocals
1st album of the Khymera project, this self titled release features Kansas singer and keyboard player Steve Walsh on vocals.
This is a great album full of beautifully written and produced songs, but Steve Walsh's vocals are as mad as a box of spanners. His voice warbles and grates, and lurks in an unknown realm somewhere between the highest and lowest registers. It's quite hard to describe what the resulting sound is like, but there's no doubt he gives the record a truck-load of character.
You will either love this album for its songs and uniqueness, or you will hate it for the gremlin-styled singing. One way or another this is a recording that will generate plenty of debate and opinion. We like it though, just don't blame us if you don't!
Check out... The vocals. What do YOU reckon?
