Album Review: Loveblast (self-titled) (2010)
For fans of: Hard Rock... and making an explosion with style
Loveblast, formed in 2007 by guitarist/vocalist Brian Durbin and guitarist Alex Spadavecchia, is a band you probably haven't heard of. Judging by this debut release, perhaps you should have.
The Chicago outfit, completed by Danny Clayton on bass, and Mike Prost on drums, play a hard rocking sound that draws its influences from far and wide. There's plenty of sleaze in there, nods to heavy metal, punk and more. Parts of it come across like surf anthems, others like grungy alt-madness, Jane's Addiction styly. There's a real summery upbeat disposition to the album. As the band's name suggests; it's all a bit of a blast and very easy to love.
Best moments include the speedy opener 'Harder & Faster (On the Edge of Disaster)', the surf-licious 'Got a Feelin`', the monster sing-along 'Far Too Long', the epic 'Lonely Winter' with it's bloody brilliant guitar playing, and the throbbing 'Give It All'. Top marks however go the slow, sensual, totally leftfield retro musings of 'Goodbye My Darling'. How good?!
This self-titled debut from Loveblast is rather splendid. The band deserve to generate a lot of interest on the back of it. It isn't quite perfect, but don't be surprised if the next album comes out on a big label. These guys really are that good.
Check out... 'Goodbye My Darling'. Love it!
