Album Review: In Fire (2011)
For fans of: Metal
Lechery, built around former Arch Enemy guitarist Martin Bengtsson, was formed in 2004 and released it's first album "Violator" in 2008. "In Fire" is the follow-up and sees the band covering a wider spread of heavy metal sounds. There's a definite leaning towards battle metal throughout, though pure power metal, straight ahead heavy metal and more crop up as the album plays through.
The variety is good, if not always that inspiring. When the band get it right they sound superb, but plenty of the album is merely average. There's not a lot wrong with what these guys do - hell, the playing is first rate and the singing impressive too - but (especially in the second half) the songs don't break any new ground and aren't especially memorable.
Songs they do get right are the super-smooth 'Burning Anger', the boisterous and anthemic 'Heart Of A Metal Virgin', and the rhythmically cool 'Cross The Line'.
In Summation:
Good-ish for fans of bands like Iced Earth, and features some superb musicianship, but I'd be inclined to pluck the best tracks from iTunes and miss the rest.
