Album Review: Chains On Fire (2011)

For fans of: Heavy Rock

Lords Of The Trident - Chains On FireLords Of The Trident is not an easy band to find out information about. The biographies on their various websites speak of being born in volcanoes and tosh like that, and their profile pictures look like something from a c-list Gwar fancy dress party. Fortunately, and I really do mean fortunately, the music is good enough to forget the faux-image building.

The band's sound is heavier than rock but not always bombastic enough to be metal. There are elements of Judas Priest, Praying Mantis, Magnum and Iron Maiden mixed with bar room rock 'n' roll. The result is very appealing with plenty of catchy songs and great riffs catching the attention again and again. The production is mostly as rough as a badger's pubic hair, but as a pointer to how good these guys will be on the live stage doesn't seem to matter so much.

Of the songs, the groovy 'Face Of The Enemy', the occasionally thrash metal 'Legions of Hypocrisy', and the amusing folk metal of 'The Metal Sea' are best, but there are plenty of other snippets that hit the mark.

In Summation:

I can't see this appealing to everyone, but it's worth a punt as there are plenty of good moments throughout.
