Album Review: Burn My Eyes (1994)
For fans of: groove metal... and absolute awesomeness
From the opening barrage of drums to the final dying guitars, this album is a fist of spiteful fury. It is also bloody brilliant.
Rob Flynn may not be the best vocalist out there, but he does a terrific line in sounding constantly p*ssed off. The whole tone of this release is aggressive, and whilst Burn My Eyes sounds like it wants to rip your throat out, there is an indulgence of melody and control in the mix. Although deafeningly heavy this album crosses boundaries and should appeal to fans of many genres.
Burn My Eyes instantly made the big thrash bands of the day sound old hat and put Machine Head on the tip of everyone's tongue. Quite possibly the greatest debut in thrash history, this album alone made 1994 a vintage year.
Check out... All of it. Repeatedly.
