Album Review: The Burning Red (1999)
For fans of: alternative metal... and gangster rap
Lets get a few things straight first. 'Desire To Fire', 'The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears' and 'From This Day' are perfectly decent tracks. Machine Head doing gangster rap is a strange concept but when it's done right it sounds convincing.
The rest of the album however is as lame as a legless horse. The dreary whining cover of 'Message In A Bottle' is especially jarring. Much of the album sounds like the inspiration for Coldplay's career. This is not a good thing.
A couple of decent tracks encapsulated within a coat of cr*p, The Burning Red was a brave change of direction for Machine Head. Sadly their sat nav wasn't working at the time.
Check out... The change of style. Hmmm...
