Album Review: Mecca (Self Titled) (2002)
For fans of: hard rock... and respect, not lust
Self titled debut by Joe Vana's band Mecca, this is a beautiful collection of soft rocking songs. The production is crisp and clear and the musicianship is simply perfect.
There is no over-the-top twiddling or unnecessary guitar soloing on this release, nothing heavy that'll blow the cobwebs out of your ears and nothing to offend your granny. Joe Vana's vocals are relaxed and strong, the rhythm section is as tight as a fat dog's collar and the guitars and keyboards are stunning yet controlled with a delicate timbre.
There isn't a lot else you can say about Mecca. Everything is so perfect it hurts, but there is a miniscule something missing. This is an album you deeply respect and admire rather than lust after. This is a bird of paradise rather than a peregrine falcon.
Check out... The beauty of it all.
