Album Review: Countdown To Extinction (1992)
For fans of: heavy metal... and grown up thrash
Follow up to Rust In Peace, Countdown To Extinction marks a change of style for Megadeth. Gone is the raw, almost live sound to be replaced by a warm studio feel. To counter the richer production feel, the band has become considerably heavier with their riffs and much more brutal with their solos.
The result could have sounded like the work of a band who had sold out, but instead it works perfectly. This album is positively crammed with amazing tracks. In fact there isn't a duff moment throughout.
Arguably the best heavy thrash album of all time, Countdown To Extinction is Megadeth's crowning achievement and makes a mockery of the fact a certain other thrash band has sold many more records.
Check out... The start of 'Architecture Of Aggression'. How heavy?
