Album Review: Reload (1997)

For fans of: heavy metal... but not Metallica

Metallica - ReloadThankfully, this is a better album than Load. Not a difficult feat, even though Metallica was at the height of their 'unproductive' spell.

Some of the heaviness is back. Not a lot, but some is always better than none. James' vocals are more under control and the songwriting is raised by a peg or two. Whilst there are no magically brilliant songs on Reload, there is also nothing to hate.

Let's get one thing straight: this is not proper Metallica. Reload is equivalent to getting Iron Maiden to play Beach Boys songs. It isn't a terrible release and, if you can swallow the fact your favourite band have gone all odd, there is a modicum of enjoyment to be gained by having a listen.

Check out... 'The Unforgiven II'.
