Album Review: St Anger (2003)

For fans of: heavy metal... and noise

Metallica - St AngerSt Anger? St Inker more like. 6 years from the last disappointing album to this? Wow, that was worth the wait!

If you've ever heard a toddler playing a toy drum kit in a cathedral, you'll have a good idea what the rhythm section of this album sounds like. The production is terrible. The songwriting isn't far behind. The making of this album was documented in the movie 'Some Kind Of Monster'. The movie was considerably better than the album.

It could be argued that Metallica were brave with this album and tried to instigate a new form of Heavy Metal. Sadly, combining the styles of Rage Against The Machine, Sepultura and Garth Brooks does not a good album make.

St Anger is proof that you can pedal any old cr*p if you have a good enough name.
