EP Review: Tales Of The Worm EP (2010)

For fans of: Acoustic Rock... and ?

Monsters In The Attic - Tales Of The Worm EPThis latest Monsters In The Attic EP is an interesting proposition. The band - Patch Barbet, Tom Walding, Ben Wooster, and Robin Weston - generally play a punky heavy-alt-rock 'n' roll. Here, however, they present a few tracks performed acoustic styly.

'Get To The Border' is brand new, but the others are reworkings of older MITA songs. The sound is soft, country tinged, folksy, bluesy and leaning heavily towards easy-listening - with an edge. If you like the sound they normally put out, this might come as a shock.

The lyrics are equal parts thought-provoking and damned weird. Songs about girls covered in scars from their head to their feet? Yep, got that covered.

As a whole, the Tales Of The Worm EP works well a a short-lived titillation, but it's little more than that. It doesn't compare well to the energetic badass music these guys normally put out, even if it does work as a standalone entity. It proves the point that they are talented, but then the people who are likely to buy this probably knew that anyway.

Check out... The 2nd EP MITA release this year, a full electric one.
