THE MURDER OF MY SWEET - review added 12th January 2010
Album Review: Divanity (2010)
For fans of: Symphonic Rock... and floating ladies
The Murder Of My Sweet was formed by drummer, songwriter and producer Daniel Flores (Frozen Rain, The Codex), and padded out with singer Angelica Rylin, guitarist Daniel Palmqvist, bass player Johan Niemann and keyboardist Andreas Lindahl.
Divanity marks the debut of this band and, you'd have to say, it's not a bad effort. Not by a long way. The sound is melodious, orchestral, extremely accessible and easy to like. The thing that really hits you though is the vocal presence of Angelica Rylin: she is mighty fine! Based on what she does here I definitely want to hear more.
The tracks may vary wildly in standard, but the quality as a whole never dips into negative territory. For me the best entry by a long way is the slow brooding 'Kiss of Death'. I love the way the track builds into the stunning chorus. A phrase I find myself repeating often: if the whole album had been this good it would have blown me away.
Overall, Divanity is definitely worth a listen. I can't promise you'll fall madly in love with it, but I'll bet my middle nipple you'll be glad you bought it.
