Album Review: Facing The Animal (1997)

For fans of: neo-classical metal... and sorely missed drummers

Yngwie Malmsteen - Facing The AnimalFeaturing vocalist Mats Levén and one of the last appearances anywhere by drummer Cozy Powell, Facing The Animal is a strong collection of hard rocking songs.

The title track, 'Another Time' and 'Heathens From The North' are brilliantly aggressive slices of metal, whilst 'Like An Angel' is one of the best heavy ballads you'll hear. The guitars are, of course, excellent throughout, but Mats Olausson should be given special mention for his inspired keyboard work.

Facing The Animal features numerous great tracks with barely a pause for breath. This is comfortably up with Yngwie's finest work and makes you wish he had worked with Mats Levén for more than this one release.

Check out... 'Like An Angel'. Simply brilliant.
