Album Review: Odyssey (1988)
For fans of: neo-classical metal... and JLT
About as close as Yngwie Malmsteen would ever come to a commercially agreeable hair metal record, Odyssey features the awesome talents of Joe Lynn Turner on vocals.
Songs like 'Heaven Tonight', 'Hold On', 'Dreaming (Tell Me)' and 'Deja Vu' are hugely accessible and amongst Yngwie's finest work, but there are still plenty of neo-classical interludes here to appease the diehards. This is by no means a sell-out album as some people might infer, but it is a clever shift of direction to allow for market tastes.
One of Yngwie's finer moments, Odyssey is a great collection of catchy yet technically superb anthems.
Check out... The insane catchiness of 'Heaven Tonight'.
