Album Review: Nevermind (1991)
For fans of: grunge... and the new sport of baby fishing
Yes, it's a baby with its winkle out swimming after a dollar bill. Get the chuckles out of your system...
Whilst there were other bands doing grunge before them, Nirvana made it the force it was. 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was the anthem as fans moved from spunky glam rock to the drudge and despair of the new sound. 'In Bloom', 'Come As You Are' and 'Lithium' were all successful in their own rights, but '...Teen Spirit' remains the big one.
Nirvana's second album is a hot bed of extremes. The good songs are very, very good and the bad songs are terrible. Somewhere in the middle are a few average tracks holding the whole thing together. Nevermind was a landmark release, but it was more a sign of the times than a sign of ultimate musical excellence.
Check out... 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' live on Top Of The Pops. Your man wasn't a happy bunny that day!
