Album Review: The 8th Sin (2007)
For fans of: power metal... and neutered Poodles
Sounding like a beefier, less theatrical version of The Poodles, this Nocturnal Rites release is a good listen. Apparently their back catalogue ranges from power to death metal, although this is the first of their work I've experienced.
The sound on The 8th Sin is rooted in melody, though some parts are jolly heavy. The songs never lose their musical edge though and singer Jonny Lindkvist has a clear voice with an abundance of expression. Every track has an individual character and the majority of them are above average. The ballads get a special mention for being a little off the wall. There's nothing worse than a derivative love song and that's a trap Nocturnal Rites don't fall into to.
The 8th Sin is Scandinavian metal at its (almost) best.
Check out... Those ballads.
