Album Review: Over The Edge (Self Titled) (2004)

For fans of: hard rock... and Starship

Over The Edge - Over The EdgeFeaturing the vocal talents of Starship singer Mickey Thomas and writing by Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain and Jack Blades amongst others, this eponymous album by the 'Over The Edge' project has a strong base on which to build.

Songs like 'Over The Edge', 'One World' and 'Forest For The Trees' are superb. The main criticism of the album is that its best track is also the biggest let down. 'Eyes Wide Open' is a simply stunning Jonathan Cain ballad that is almost ruined by Mickey Thomas' vocal interpretation. Mickey's vocals don't sound at all bad, they simply don't fit with the song. I truly hope Journey decide to record the song at some point. It could be their best song ever.

An excellent album with much to recommend it. If you can get past the slaughtered yet brilliant ballad you'll enjoy this a lot.

Check out... How good 'Eyes Wide Open' would be if Journey recorded it.
