Album Review: I Hear Black (1993)
For fans of: heavy metal... and having ears good enough to detect colours
A change of style for Overkill's 6th full album, I Hear Black goes for more of a classically heavy approach at odds with their normal thrash sound. The speed is still there, but it no longer dominates proceedings.
'Feed My Head' is a crawling metal beast which WILL make you head bang, 'Dreaming In Columbian' and 'Just Like You' are pretty good too. This is an awesome album but something is missing from the sound. It's hard to put you finger on. Maybe it's the change of style, maybe it's the production, but I Hear Black is slightly soulless.
A disappointment after the last couple of albums, I Hear Black had a lot to live up to and doesn't quite manage it. All is relative though. I Hear Black is still excellent.
Check out... 'Feed My Head'. Preferably with burgers.
