Album Review: Kings And Queens (2004)

For fans of: hard rock... and the Hell's Angels

Axel Rudi Pell - Kings And QueensAny album where the best song is a ballad about the Hell's Angels is going to be a characterful. Kings And Queens is certainly that.

Marc Klinnert designed the amazing artwork for this release, and it really sums up the album. This is a journey through a fantasy realm of dreamy rhythms and mystical vocals. Johnny Gioeli, from the occasional band Hardline, has a magical voice with a highly recognizable warble. He gives the songs a warmth you could toast chestnuts on.

Axel Rudi Pell's music never varies much. You always know you're going to get something good but rarely mind-blowing. Kings And Queens continues the trend. If you don't own any of his work I urge you to buy this. If you own another of his albums you've probably heard all this before with slightly different lyrics.

Check out... The double kick drums at the end of 'Only The Strong Survive'. We like double kick drums, especially when they don't have someone doing devil grunts over the top.
