Album Review: Lobotomy (2009)
For fans of: Metal... and overseeing acronyms
German band P.A.I.N. Management - not sure what the P.A.I.N. actually stands for - consists of Markus (vocals), Andreas (synths and sampling), Patrick (guitar), Andre (bass) and Christian (drums).
Lobotomy is the band's first full album and follows Save The EP 2008 and, before that, the Save The Day demo disc. The sound is based around a brick sh*thouse of classic metal with a bass-heavy drive and plenty of broken beats. There are nods to doom, melodic death metal and thrashy rock 'n' roll.
Opening track 'I Disagree' is very listenable to, as is the drum frenzied assault of 'Serious' - a song akin to a day at a firing range. 'Bleed Forgiveness' has the impending doom of an apocalypse built into its crawling skeleton. I guess you could call it a cataclysmic ballad. The instrumental, er, 'Instrumental' is enjoyable if unexceptional. Final track 'God' has a well-balanced heavy sound and is up there with the album's better entries.
Lobotomy certainly has it's moments and, overall, it's a decent enough listen. There's nothing life-altering on it though and I don't see myself coming back to it for anything more than occasional listens.
Check out... 'Bleed Forgiveness'.
